In
1948, 750,000 Palestinians, nearly half the Arab population of the
country of Palestine, were forced from their homes by the newly
created Israeli army. In 1967, another 350,000 Palestinians were
driven out of their homes in the 6-Day War. In flagrant violations
of United Nations resolutions and international laws by which it
agreed to be bound when it was recognized by the UN, the State of
Israel refuses to recognize the right of the refugees to return. The
Palestinian refugee population, at between 5 and 6 million people,
is the largest in the world.
